Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is the event taking place

A: The opening of the Alpha Merit Badge University is at 8:00am, located in the Earl Graves School of Business and Management

Q: Is there a refund policy

A: We do not offer refunds at this time given the nature of renting the facility, but if the scout wishes to complete a merit badge but cannot show up other arrangements can be made on a scout to scout basis.

Q: Is there parking and lunch for the AMBU?

A: Each scout will be given an arm band to eat lunch on this day.  We will be eating in the dining hall at Morgan State University.  Each scout will have approximately 1 hour to eat.  Parking is located at Earl Graves School of Business and Management and School of Engineering.  Parking is free on Saturday!

Q: Are blue cards required?

A: Blue cards are required but we would prefer that each scout connects with the merit badge counselor on Scoutbook plus for ease of completion.

Please make sure you complete all prerequisites prior to attending the class.  There are challenges with earning the merit badge once the counselor is no longer involved on October 3, 2026.  It will be up to the counselor, and the advancement chair to make arrangements after Saturday.

Q: What is the required dress code and what should the scout bring?

A: Each scout is required to be in their class "A" uniform.  Scouts should bring their day pack with the 10 essentials for scouting on the day of the event.  In event that it rains, they will have a rain coat in their day pack.  The event will be held rain or shine.  Scouts should dress accordingly to the weather and be prepared to do some walking from the School of Business of Management to the cafeteria which is approximately 8-10 minutes.  Morgan State University students will be on campus, but the class A uniform helps us to identify who you are and university community.

Q: Is there a contact for emergencies?

A: Yes, you can contact Dwayne Ham for any emergencies during the event. 240-997-1846.

Q: Should or can scouts bring laptops and phones to the event?

A: Scouts should bring appropriate electronics to the event to be used in classes and their cellphones to contact parents or participate in class.  Should an electronic device create a distraction, we expect that scouts adhere to the student code of conduct and the scout oath/law to ensure that learning is not disrupted in class.

We want scouts to enjoy themselves and ask questions.  99% of all the instructors are teaching in their profession and we want the students to be alert and inquisitive.  During lunch, we want them to enjoy the ambiance, sights and sounds of the campus.  We also want to take a picture of all the scouts together to record the opportunity that Morgan State University and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated has provided.
